Job Shadowing Program
Guidelines for Work Site Participants
PURPOSE
A job shadowing experience will expose the student to the actual working of a specific career. It should familiarize the student with the daily work routine of that career.
CONSIDERATIONS FOR THE WORK SITE PARTICIPANT
The experience should be interesting to the student, but it is not intended that efforts be made to glamorize the career, nor is it necessary for the students to be entertained.
The experience should provide realistic career information that will aid the student in making career decisions.
The experience should allow student to observe as much of the total operations of the business as time permits.
It is helpful to have one individual at the work site responsible for planning the student’s schedule and being aware of his/her presence.
The work site participant will be asked to fill out an evaluation of the shadowing visit and return it to the Job Shadowing Coordinator.
CONSIDERATIONS FOR THE STUDENT PARTICIPANT
If asked, the student should be willing to do any assigned tasks he/she is capable of handling. It is helpful if the student understands how such duties fit into the overall operations of the business.
The student agrees to be punctual and to complete the time commitment. The student will be asked to be appropriately dressed and participate in suggested activities during his/her visit.
Any problems or feeling of discontent the business or student may have should be relayed to the Job Shadowing Coordinator.
