Mentoring

Workplace mentoring programs are typically employer sponsored and provide learners unique opportunities to spend extended periods of time in the workplace. Mentees are supervised by or aligned with a supportive employee. Mentorships vary in size, scope and type from business to business.

Training and support in mentoring is available to local companies through the South Central Service, Work & Learning Center, the Mankato Chamber of Commerce and Minnesota State University, Mankato. Contact the SCSWL Center for more information and specific requests.

  • Excellent career awareness can result from mentoring.
  • Numerous program designs shape mentoring to accomplish different visions.
  • Teachers, parents and guardians are not replaced by mentors.
  • Opportunities for mentoring can benefit both the mentor and mentee.
  • Relationships create special bonds of respect and friendship.
  • Nominal training sessions are required for most mentoring programs.
  • Opportunity is created for the program to be fun for the everyone involved.


Who should be a mentor? Anyone who is interested in making a difference in a youth's life, insists on high expectations and sticks with it.
